About
We believe education belongs to everyone
Open Doors was created by a migrant student who knows firsthand how hard it is to navigate the US college system — and how much difference the right information can make.
Our mission
Open Doors exists to make the information that changes lives actually accessible. Too many migrants and refugees have the drive and the ability to go to college, but no idea where to start. This site is here to close that gap — for free, for everyone.
Accessibility
Everything on this site is free. No sign-ups, no fees, no barriers. Just the information you need, clearly explained.
Honesty
We share what actually works — based on real experience navigating the system, not just what sounds good on paper.
Empowerment
The goal isn't just to guide you through the process once. It's to help you understand it well enough to help others too.
How Open Doors started
Open Doors was created by Gaby Duran, a high school senior and migrant who grew up watching classmates with the same dreams and abilities get left behind — not because they weren't capable, but because they didn't have access to the right information. Gaby was lucky. She had counselors who took the time to explain things, and she spent years piecing together everything she could learn about college access for migrants and refugees. Open Doors is her way of making sure that luck isn't the deciding factor. Everything on this site is what she wishes had existed from the start.
